DAAD along with Universitas Indonesia (UI) and BINUS university hosted the Information Visit for Heads of 20 German University of Applied Sciences to Indonesia, an event to foster academic collaboration between two countries.

The DAAD is organising a visit of 20 presidents/rectors of German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) to Indonesia from February 28 to March 2, 2024. The purpose of the visit is to provide first-hand information on opportunities for German-Indonesian academic collaboration to the German university presidents/rectors and to facilitate structured exchange between them and Indonesian university presidents/rectors.

The matchmaking event took place at Universitas Indonesia for 11 selected public universities, and at BINUS university for 10 selected private universities. Occurring in a rotating format, the matchmaking allows all 20 German heads of universities to talk briefly to all Indonesian heads of universities. Behind the desk, each Indonesian representative has to inform the German heads of universities about the great opportunities they could offer that could trigger cooperation, with the hope that the exchange between the high-ranking decision-makers might make it possible to already identify specific areas of cooperation. Alongside with campus tour, and Matchmaking as the main agenda, the Host University had the privilege to discuss with German delegations in the level of faculty for the possibility of upcoming collaborations.

The German Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Ina Lepel, kicked off the scheduled Information Visits with an internal meeting on their arrival day, discussing the political situation after the elections in Indonesia. They also got practical coorporation experience from the HTWG Konstanz.

During their visit to Indonesia, the delegation of heads of German UAS and the Deputy Secretary General of DAAD, Dr. Michael Harms, visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. Together with Indonesian Higher Education Directorate General, Prof. Ir. Nizam, they discussed the themes of the implementation of the current university development strategy, the internationalization of Indonesian universities, the German UAS system, and Indonesian government scholarship programs.

To wrap up their agenda in Indonesia, heads of German UAS also visited Atma Jaya Catholic University. Located in the heart of Jakarta, the sacred ambience of the campus has impressed the delegations. After the campus tour, each faculty of Atma Jaya had the chance to discuss their interest of collaboration with heads of German University of Applied Sciences.
