The orientation of your studies or research should lead towards permanent reintegration in your home region (otherwise the scholarship is turned into a loan).

Application Requirements
- are a national from, and currently reside in, a developing or transition country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America.
- have obtained a higher education degree and already have work experience in your home country.
- want to acquire a Master's degree or PhD, complete post-doctoral studies or carry out a research project (2 to 6 months for researchers) at a German higher education institution.
- are of Catholic faith (or another Christian denomination, if you are from the Middle East). If you belong to another religious denomination, you may be eligible, if a Catholic partner organisation proposes you and you can demonstrate your willingness to participate in inter-religious dialogue.
- demonstrate excellent academic achievement and potential for study and/or research.
- focus in your study or research work in Germany on returning permanently to your home country after the completion of the scholarship; otherwise the funding will be considered as a loan.
- are socially engaged and involved in the Church and ready to participate in inter-religious dialogue.
- have a knowledge of the German language prior to your stay in Germany at least on level B1 (or, for English language courses of study, at least at level A2). The KAAD expects eligible candidates to complete preparatory German language courses in their home country. In addition, it is possible to apply for funding for a language course (full-time or during studies.)
